WILLMAR -- Orlan Garfield Skare, 82, of Willmar died Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Willmar.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are by Harvey Anderson Funeral Home of Willmar.
He was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Bagley to Elmer and Lulu (Hellerud) Skare. He grew up in Bagley, where he graduated from Bagley High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, stationed on the USS Comfort in the Pacific Theater. He attended Bemidji State College and the University of Minnesota, receiving a master's degree in business.
He married Beverly Steffen on Dec. 28, 1949, in Bemidji. He was employed by International Harvester and Josten's of Owatonna before returning to college to prepare to teach marketing. He retired from teaching at Willmar Technical College in June 1991. He was a frequent contributor to trade professional journals in marketing and continued to write instructional packages for use by other educational institutions.
He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Rice Hospital and Meals on Wheels. In March 1993, he taught marketing in Moscow as a volunteer. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, served on the Presbytery Social Justice Committee and was a member of the National Education Association. He was a member of the Norsemen singing group and Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife; children: Mary Jo Bird of Robbinsdale, Mark Skare of St. Cloud, Sarah (and Brian) Evenson of Atwater and Eric (and Lori) Skare of Lakeville; five grandchildren; and a brother: Elmo (and Gail) Skare of Bemidji.
