Orland Johnson Aug. 21, 1939 - Aug. 21, 2013

RENVILLE - Orland Johnson, age 74, of Renville died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Renville with Rev. Tom Evenson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Our Savior's Lutheran cemetery in Sacred Heart. Visitation will be on Monday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville from 5-7 p.m. and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Orland Michael Johnson was born August 21, 1939 in Sacred Heart township to Oscar and Gladys (Strandjord) Johnson. He was Baptized at Opdal Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart and Confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in 1954. Orland graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1957. He worked at Farmers Coop Elevator from 1957 to 1959 then served in the U.S. Army Security Agency from January 1960 to October 1962 in Ankara, Turkey and Washington D.C. Orland married LaVonne Hanson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Granite Falls on September 28, 1963. They have two children Pam (and Dan) Lynch and Todd (and Ann Ridler) Johnson and five grandchildren: Hailey, Hanna, Hayden, Connor, and Ryan. Orland and LaVonne farmed south of Sacred Heart for 20 years before moving to Renville in 1985. Orland then worked for the Renville County Highway Department, retiring in 2001. Orland served on church council at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was clerk of Sacred Heart Township for a number of years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. Orland and LaVonne spent 8 winters in Arizona and formed many lasting friendships. Orland was a very proud father and grandfather and he loved spending time with his family and especially attending the grandkids’ events. He also enjoyed going to tractor and threshing events, fishing, golfing and reading. He is loved and will be greatly missed.

Orland is survived by his wife, LaVonne Johnson of Renville, daughter Pam (and Dan) Lynch of Chanhassen, son Todd (and Ann Ridler) Johnson of Renville; his five grandchildren: Hailey, Hanna, Hayden, Connor, and Ryan; his two brothers: David Johnson of Sacred Heart and Tom (and Delores) Johnson of Belview; and his three sisters: Gleva Krause of Willmar, Joan Hildahl of Willmar, and Becky (and Truman) Homme of Spicer; and several nieces and nephews. Orland was preceded in death by his parents, Okey and Gladys Johnson, and his two brothers, Richard Johnson and James Johnson.
