NEW LONDON - Orlean “Ole” Olson, 82 of New London, died Saturday morning, April 20, 2013 at his home in New London. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the services all at the church. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. In Lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church or Rice Hospice.

Orlean Irwin Olson was born on the family farm in Irving Township on June 8, 1930, the son of Casper and Louise (Mickelson) Olson. Ole was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church. He attended country school in District #66 and New London High School. After 9th Grade, he worked on the family farm and later received his GED. On March 17, 1956, Ole married Shirley Manson. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage and were blessed with five children, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many foster children. Ole held various jobs in agriculture until he began working at the Willmar State Hospital. He owned and operated several businesses, including Olson's Surplus, a farm, and other retail businesses. No matter how he was making a living, it was his genuine love of people that made him well known to many. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving bus, traveling with Shirley, volunteering at a children’s ranch in Texas, card club and coffee with friends. Ole was a member of Peace Lutheran church, where he served the Lord with joy. He was also involved in a variety of community organizations. Ole's greatest loves were his wife and family. He loved to spend time laughing, joking and being with is family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Lynn (and David) Bergren of Chaska, Steven (and Ann) Olson of Alexandria, John (and Karen) Olson of Hutchinson, Jennifer (and Wayne) Anttila of Oakdale, and Matthew Olson of Alexandria; grandchildren, Jaime Bergren-Hanish, Dr. Adam Bergren, Ian Bergren, Stephanie Olson, Joshua Olson, Lydia Bergen, Aaron Martinenko, Alicia Martinenko, Karl Olson and Erik Olson; great-grandchildren, Shawn Miller, Kyle Miller, Thor Bergren-Hanish and Gabrielle Bergren; special foster children Danny (Tung) Huynh and Ernie Jacobsen; siblings, Harlow Olson, Lucille Peterson and Florence Thompson; many nieces, nephews, other family and a host of great friends.

Ole was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Arnold (Marion) Olson, sisters, Violet (Tom) Green and Pearl (Herb) Sohlberg; two brothers in infancy; brothers-in-law, Lee Peterson and Alton “Tippy” Thompson.
