Ornaments capture treasured scenes of Atwater
ATWATER -- For the fourth year in a row, a piece of Atwater's history has been captured on Christmas ornaments.
The limited edition glass bulb ornaments, which have a picture of a unique building from the town's distant and current history, are for sale for $8.
The Atwater Chamber of Commerce initiated the idea of creating the series of collectible Christmas tree ornaments. The first ornament was made in 2002 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class from the Atwater school. The ornament from that year features a photo of the old school building.
The 2003 ornament features the old creamery, which is where the community center is located, and the 2004 ornament shows an historic photo of market day in 1905 in Atwater.
The 2005 ornament has a likeness of the shelter at Centennial Park. The park was developed in 1976, which was the 100th anniversary of the town of Atwater.
Ornaments for all four years are available and can be purchased from the Atwater City Hall, Peaceful Thymes and the Atwater State Bank.
City Clerk Goldie Smith said suggestions are being sought for what to put on the 2006 Atwater Christmas ornament.
