GRANITE FALLS -- Orton Edward Sachariason, 90, of Granite Falls, died Thursday at the Granite Manor.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Saron Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

He was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Leenthrop Township, Chippewa County, to Edward and Josephine (Bangsund) Sachariason. He attended rural school and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1936.

He married Verona Timm on Sept. 5, 1942, in Wood Lake. He farmed for two years in Cashel Township of Swift County and for many years in Leenthrop Township of Chippewa County before retiring.

He was a member of Saron Lutheran Church and was a Luther League leader, on the church council, was church treasurer and served on call committees. He served on the School Board for District 74, and was a member of the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital Board, the Luther Haven Board and the Minnesota Beef Feeders Association Board. He was a fast pitch softball catcher for many years.

He is survived by his wife; six children: Joel (and LaRae) Sachariason of Montevideo, Carol Arneson of Chicago (and David of Naples, Fla.), Mary (and Norm) Ritter of Alexandria, Edward (and Janice) Sachariason of Montevideo, Janice (and Mike) Holien of Sacred Heart, and Vera (and Hollis) Weber of Hazel Run; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Myra Scheltens of Clara City.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers and two sisters.
