Orville Rolfing Jan. 29, 1921 - Sept. 26, 2009
REDWOOD FALLS -- Orville O. Rolfing, 88, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Wood Lake, died Saturday at Season's Hospice House in Redwood Falls.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and for one hour prior to service at the church.
He was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Inver Grove Township, Dakota County, to Irving and Esther (Gackstetter) Rolfing. He grew up and attended school in Inver Grove.
He married Erna Nellis on May 31, 1947, in Inver Grove. He farmed and did repair work with his father in Inver Grove. They moved to Wood Lake in 1969 where he continued to farm and do repairs. He retired in 1998 and they lived near Wood Lake until moving into Redwood Falls in 2005. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls and had been a member of Wood Lake United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school for more than 30 years, served as chairman of the board of the church, as Sunday school superintendent for many years and was a member of the Methodist Men's Club. He had a Lifetime Membership in the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Cheryl (and Lester) Hively of Minneota, Kathryn Norton of Capitan, N.M., Betty (and Jeff) Stancer of Redwood Falls, Carolyn (and Brad) Schwitters of Las Vegas and John (and Wanda) Rolfing of Capitan, N.M., 17 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and his brother: Donald Rolfing of Inver Grove Heights,
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and two sisters.
