NORTHFIELD - Oscar T. Mattson, 95, of Northfield, formerly of Willmar, died Saturday, December 28th at Northfield Care Center in Northfield. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 3rd at Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Kandiyohi. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Oscar was born on May 30, 1918, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Theodore and Ida (Pearson) Mattson. He attended Little Park Country School, District #61 and Willmar High School. On March 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Gladys Akre in Watertown, South Dakota. Following their marriage, he was the fourth generation farmer on the family homestead. Oscar later worked for the railroad for many years. In 1999, they moved into Willmar and following Gladys death, Oscar has been living near his daughter, Patsy in Northfield. For many years, Oscar also dug graves in the area and tended to Tripolis Lutheran Cemetery until he was 80 years old before finally retiring.

Oscar was baptized at home on June 23, 1918 and confirmed at Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member and was a member of the Tripolis Cemetery Association for 34 years. He also belonged to Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2334 in Willmar.

Surviving are his daughter, Patsy Taylor (and Larry) Trusty of Northfield; five grandchildren, Bradley (and Cindy) Trusty, Robert (and Peggy) Trusty, Tamara (and Mark) Winter, Karmi Anna (and Matt Fujinaka) Mattson, Theodore Mattson and four great grandchildren, Joshua Winter, Rebecca Winter, Alexandra Trusty and Benjamin Trusty. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Linda Mattson of Beresford, SD.

Besides his wife, Gladys on August 4, 2013, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rev. Donald Mattson and sister, June Mattson.
