Mille Lacs walleye fishing season to end in two weeks

Pair lose belongings in Spicer-area house fire

A lightning strike was the apparent cause of a fire that damaged the upper level of a home owned by Land Title/Investment Lending Group of Roseville in a housing development on the northeast side of Calhoun Lake Saturday morning. Renters Darryl Parsons and Vicki Norton escaped safely but lost most of their belongings, said New London Fire Department Chief Sig Holm. New London firefighters were called at 7:15 a.m. and found the front half of the upper level on fire. Holm said high wind spread the fire into the roof area. New London was assisted by departments from Spicer, Atwater and Paynesville. New London Ambulance and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad with an air supply truck were called to stand by. Holm said no one was injured. The house received extensive smoke damage and water damage. Submitted photo by Kristin Clark
