Paul David Laraway

GRANBURY, TX - Paul David "Pete" Laraway, 81, passed away on Monday, August 26th 2013 in Granbury, TX. A gravesite memorial service will be held in Willmar, MN at Fairview Cemetery, Friday, September 27th, 11:00 AM.
Paul was born February 11th, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa to Charles Hay Laraway and Bonnie Newton Miller Laraway. He married Dorothy Schulz, July 14th, 1956. After graduating from Willmar High School, Paul enlisted in the US Air Force. He was sent to Korea for his tour of duty. At age 19, he was promoted to Staff Sargent and was commended for action above and beyond duty. At the end of his tour, he left the Air Force and entered Los Angeles City College. He took a part time job writing "copy" for the Los Angeles Times which turned into a 42 year newspaper career. His forte was in advertising and retired in 1996 as Senior Vice President of Advertising for the Media Newspaper Group owned by Mr. Dean Singleton. He served in this position in Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Dallas, TX, and San Francisco, CA.
Paul and his family were residents of Pecan Plantation of Granbury, TX, where he enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, fishing, traveling, and most of all golf. Paul was a member Acton United Methodist Church and enjoyed and participated in the "Visionaries," an adult education Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Schulz of Granbury, TX; Son, Brian (Alicia) Laraway of Austin, TX; Daughter, Shannon (Bryan) Williams of Ouray, CO; Grandchildren, Jordan Williams, Jenna Williams; Brother, Albert V. Laraway; Nephew, Donald (Caryl) Haug Jr., Willmar, and several nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, father and three sisters, Lillian (Herman) Gort; Jean (Donald) Haug; Marion (Dale) Helmer; and one brother, Charles H. Laraway; and one sister-in-law, Gladys Laraway.
