Paul M. Peterson
Paul M. Peterson
Paul M. Peterson, 44 of San Angelo, TX, formerly of West Fargo, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo from a massive stroke.
Paul Merlin Peterson was born to Donald and Doris Peterson on October 5, 1968, joining a sister and brother and making our family complete. He was baptized and confirmed in Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo. He attended school in West Fargo and graduated from West Fargo High School with honors in 1987.
Paul lived his life much as the Frank Sinatra song I Did it My Way. He was very proud to be part of a large family on both sides and loved to hear stories that his parents shared.
He has three nephews that are very special to him and he tried to spend as much time with them as he possibly could while they were growing up. His co-workers and friends were kept abreast of all family members.
He found his passion in the radio world. His first step was KEYZ in Williston. He was on-air and behind the microphone calling sporting events in and around Williston. He moved to Sidney, MT and worked for a station owned by the same company and continued sports announcing. His on-air show was filled with all kinds of music. He came back east to Fargo and worked at Clear Channel Radio, taking part in the MDA telethon several times. His next stop was Leighton Broadcasting in Grand Forks. He was behind the microphone at local sporting events and on-air radio, using the name Paul Gibson.
Paul always wanted to be behind the microphone in Texas. With determination and inspiration, he found San Angelo a good fit and moved there in 2010. He was Program Director and midday personality at Lonestar Radio 92.9 at the time of his death.
Many family and friends reaped the benefits from his interest in cooking. He knew how to make it happen in the kitchen and/or grill.
Paul had a reputation of being a very caring person and always went the extra mile. He would do the task at hand, sharing the load. He was always quick of wit and smoothed many situations and was known as a starter and a finisher. His final task was being an organ donor.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Doris Peterson of West Fargo; sister, Lori (Steven) Martel of Fargo; brother, Steven of Fargo; nephews, Brett, Jared (fiancée, Samantha Huber) and Travis Martel all of Fargo and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Christine Peterson and Martin and Agnes Odden.
His family has given permission to his co-workers in San Angelo to establish a memorial broadcast scholarship in Pauls name. Permission was also granted to rename a golf tournament to Turn The Paige Paul Gibson Memorial Tournament. The tournament champions organ donation and registration. He and his station strongly advocated for the foundation. A tribute was published in the San Angelo newspaper.
Memorials in Pauls name may be directed to LifeSource Organ and Tissue Donation or a charity of your choosing.
Paul is loved and he knew it-he is in our hearts for all our forevers.
The memorial service was held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11:00 am at West Funeral Home, West Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service.
