Paul Vogt April 22, 1931 - July 1, 2013
OLIVIA - Paul Vogt, age 82, of Olivia died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held Saturday 3:00 p.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
Paul Clifford Vogt was born April 22, 1931 at Glenville, MN to John and Esther (Billiard) Vogt. He grew up at Danube and graduated from Danube High School in 1949. Paul served his country for 5 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on a submarine and a minesweeper. After his discharge he attended Mankato State University for a few years. Paul married Edith Peterson on August 12, 1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco, Minnesota and they were the parents of five children. Paul and Edith lived at Wells, MN, Florida, and then settled in Olivia, MN in 1959. He was involved in construction with his brother R.L. Vogt doing masonry and bricklaying for over 40 years and later worked on his own. Paul had enjoyed trap shooting, woodworking, hunting, fishing and after he received his pilot's license flying planes. He especially enjoyed history, whether reading, watching shows or visiting about it as well as sharing wartime information about the Navy and various ships. Paul also loved being with his grandchildren and painting or drawing with them. Paul was a longtime member of Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church and served his community by being a Scoutmaster for many years.
Paul is survived by his wife Edith Vogt of Olivia, his children: Lance (and Sue) Vogt of Holdingford, Lisa Vogt of Becker, Eric (and Kim) Vogt of Hong Kong and Stacey (and Keith) Larson of Olivia; his 12 grandchildren: Paul Vogt, Josh Vogt, Charlie Vogt, Jacquie Vogt, Maddi Vogt, Michael Vogt, Sophie Stephens, Isabella Vogt, Scarlett Vogt, Eva Larson, Hanna Larson, and Cam Larson; his brother Myron (and Val) Vogt of Washington; his sister-in-law Shirley Vogt of Olivia; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his son Mark Vogt; his grandson Samuel Vogt; his brothers: Wallace Vogt and Robert Vogt; and his sisters: Barb Emerson, Mae Jensen, and Mildred Brabec.
