WILLMAR -- Paul George Wearda, 80, of Willmar died Wednesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with military honors provided by VFW Post 1639 and American Legion Post 167.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to service at the church.
He was born Dec. 30, 1928, near Clara City to Herman and Tomka Wearda. He grew up near Clara City and attended schools in District 55 and Clara City. He worked for his brother, Dick, at Wearda Implement Company in Clara City. He served in the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He received several medals, including a Purple Heart, and was a prisoner of war. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
On July 7, 1954, he married Virginia in Renville County, moved to Willmar and opened Willmar Implement Company all in the same week. They owned and operated the business for 49 years.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Willmar, VFW Post 1639 and American Legion Post 167. He was a disabled veteran.
He is survived by his wife; children: Joyce Wearda of Falcon Heights and John (and Juli) Wearda of Willmar; four grandchildren; and a sister: Ruth of Granite Falls.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Pauline in 2004; two brothers; and four sisters.
