Paynesville man found dead, attempted to pull dock from Rice Lake

PAYNESVILLE -- A 73-year-old rural Paynesville man was found unresponsive in Rice Lake by law enforcement officers called to check on his welfare Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner, deputies and Paynesville Police officers responded to a call around 6 p.m. Wednesday to 24604 165th St. in Eden Lake Township. The address is about 4½ miles east of Paynesville on Rice Lake.

The man had apparently attempted to pull a dock out of the lake. He was discovered between a pontoon and the lift wheel for the pontoon lift, was brought to shore and it was determined that he was deceased.

The name of the man has not been released by the sheriff's office. The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office.
