GLENWOOD -- Peter Joseph "Pete" Meyer, 72, of Glenwood, died Friday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Glenwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. A rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. by Our Lady Mission Group, parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. and rosary by the Knights of Columbus will be at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred.
He was born March 6, 1937, at Grove Lake to Peter and Mary (Bauer) Meyer. He grew up near Grove Lake and attended country school in Padua. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1954. He joined the Army National Guard in 1959.
He married Elaine Hansen on July 21, 1958, in Sauk Centre. They lived in St. Cloud for two years before moving to Glenwood in 1960. Peter and his brother, Ralph, owned and operated Meyer's Shoe Store in Glenwood for more than 30 years. Also, Peter was the deputy registrar.
He was a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years, was a City Council member, and served as admiral for Waterama and was parade announcer for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife; children: Patty (and Todd) Stordahl of Glenwood, Brian Meyer of Villard, Pam (and Jim) Kelley of Dayton, Peter (and Kathy) Meyer of Albany, Mary Jo (and Jeff) Olson of Cold Spring, Mark (and Nicole) Meyer of Glenwood, Tim (and Tracy) Meyer of Sauk Centre, and Tom Meyer of Glenwood; 17 grandchildren; and one brother: Lester Meyer of Grove Lake.
He was preceded in death by an infant son: Joseph; and seven siblings.
