Phyllis Peterson Oct. 31, 1926 - June 18, 2009
CLARA CITY -- Phyllis Ione Peterson, 82, of Clara City and formerly of Hanley Falls, died Thursday at the Clara City Care Center.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. Burial will be in East Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Oct. 31, 1926, to Arthur and Betsy (Ellingson) Erickson. She grew up on the family farm south of Hanley Falls and graduated from Hanley Falls High School in 1944. She graduated from Canby Normal Teachers Training in 1946. She earned her bachelor's degree in upper elementary education from Southwest State College in Marshall in 1973.
She married Iren Ervin "Pete" Peterson on Jan. 18, 1953, in Echo. They lived on a farm east of Hanley Falls. She taught in the country school system for nine years, at Wood Lake Public School for 18 years and Echo-Wood Lake Elementary School in Echo for three years. Pete died in September 1999. She was most recently living at the Clara City Care Center.
She was a member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, the Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association.
She is survived by her brother: Denton (and Darlene) Erickson of Hanley Falls; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a twin brother at birth and one sister.
