Pickup fire in Watkins under investigation, started by kids with lighter
LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire that burned a pickup Monday afternoon along 627th Avenue in Watkins.
According to the sheriff's office, a report of a possible barn fire at the William Lindenfelser residence located at 39515 627th Ave. was received around 4:40 p.m. Monday. Deputies arrived to find a 1986 Ford pickup fully engulfed in flames.
The Eden Valley Fire Department extinguished the fire. The pickup had been parked next to the barn, but the barn sustained no damage. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the owner's two juvenile children, ages 4 and 6 years old, had been using a lighter to start paper on fire. Neither child was injured.
