MANKATO - The Minnesota Department of Transportation in Mankato and Windom advised no unnecessary travel for the 13 counties of District 7, including Nobles, Rock, Cottonwood and Jackson counties due to extremely poor driving conditions caused by snowfall and reduced visibility.

Winds are beginning to increase causing blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility, reported at less than 1/10 of a mile at times.

No road closures are anticipated at this time but it may be necessary to close some highways if the weather deteriorates further, stated MnDOT.

Nobles County, headquartered in Worthington, pulled its plows off the road as of 2:44 p.m. today.

MnDOT reminded motorists to use seat belts, adjust speed to weather conditions, avoid using cruise control and turn on their headlights.
