WILLMAR -- Willmar Police are investigating the overnight theft of a pickup and a crash that involved the pickup striking a light pole and tree along 19th Avenue Southwest.

According to a news release from Sgt. Jim Felt, officers were dispatched around 5:17 a.m. this morning to the area of 19th Avenue and 22nd Street Southwest on a report that a pickup had hit a tree.

Officers arrived to find a 2001 Ford Ranger had been eastbound on 19th Avenue, went off the road and struck a light pole and two trees. The investigation revealed that the pickup had been stolen from along the 1200 block of 11th Street Southwest during the night.

The pickup also appeared to have its steering wheel secured and the accelerator propped to proceed unmanned along 19th Avenue. The vehicle stopped on the boulevard after it hit the light pole and trees and was damaged to where it could not continue.
