A former accountant will be introduced Monday afternoon as the new bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm.
Rev. John M. LeVoir, 62, of Stillwater, was appointed bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm today in Rome by Pope Benedict XVI. LeVoir will be introduced at an afternoon press conference at the Diocesan Pastoral Center in New Ulm.
LeVoir, a native of Minneapolis, has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of St. Thomas, a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota, a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in theology from the St. Paul Seminary.
He became a certified public accountant in 1973 and worked for several firms before being ordained in May 1981.
Pope Benedict XVI today named LeVoir as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm, which covers 15 counties in southern Minnesota.
