Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten said a rural Granite Falls resident, who had been in the woods near his home in Stony Run Township, called law enforcement around 4:30 p.m. Saturday and said he believed he'd found the remains of a human body.

Deputies responded to the area, and with the assistance of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, collected the remains.

Flaten said the remains have not been positively identified and were to be delivered to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for identification and autopsy.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will continue to investigate.

As this is an ongoing investigation, further information is not available at this time, said Flaten.
