SPICER -- Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is inviting the public to celebrate Earth Day with activities from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 on its grounds west of Spicer.
This year's celebration will include archaeology exhibits and a presentation by Frank Joseph on the Native Americans in Minnesota at 10:30 a.m. Expert flint-knapper Joel Osmond will demonstrate the ancient craft and there will be opportunities to toss a spear with an atlatl, as once did some of Minnesota's earliest peoples.
Earth Day is also the culminating event for the 2008-2009 Youth Energy Summit.
The day is also an opportunity to view exhibits on environmental issues, and get involved with hands on learning experiences ranging from composting and solar power to on-site bird banding.
Free trees will be available as supplies allow.
