WILLMAR — A sunny opening day at Baker Diamond turned out to be a breeze for Alexandria pitcher Blake Stockert.

The senior lefthander fanned 15 Willmar batters in six innings as the visitors thumped Willmar 4-0 in the lidlifter to the Central Lakes Conference baseball campaign.

“He’s been our nemesis for a while,” said Willmar coach Mark Stier. “We needed better at bats.”

On the plus side, the home team played good defense and got fair pitching from starter Adam Nibaur and relievers Cole Hagen and Bryce Broman.

Stockert fanned the side in the first, third and fifth.

Josh Tinklenberg singled in the third and Austin Smith doubled in the seventh, off reliever Chris Leary, for the two Willmar hits.

Parker Revering had two of Alexandria’s six hits.

Willmar is at New Prague for a pair of games on Saturday, playing Buffalo at 1 p.m. and the Trojans immediately following.
