Cathedral sophomore Jeff Fasching limited the No. 3-seeded Bulldogs to seven hits and escaped a couple of jams to toss a complete-game shutout. Fasching, who also earned a complete-game win in the Crusaders' 2-1 victory over Paynesville on April 24, struck out six and issued two walks.

"We didn't play very well, but give Cathedral credit," said Paynesville coach Brad Skoglund whose team lost for the first time in three weeks. "(Fasching) is a tough left-handed pitcher, who if he gets behind in the count, he has enough confidence to throw a curveball for strikes. They hit the ball a lot better than the last time and are tough."

The Bulldogs (13-7) had two runners on in the first and sixth innings, but had just one player reach third base as they were shutout for the first time since May 6, 2011.

Jason Kampsen supplied two of the Bulldogs' seven hits, while Bo Schmitz went 3-for-3 for the No. 2 Crusaders (18-4). Kampsen worked the first three innings on the mound to get tagged with the loss.
