Prep Baseball: Litchfield thwarts late W-M comeback bid; wins slugfest

LITCHFIELD -- Litchfield scored at least one run in each inning en route to tipping Watertown-Mayer 12-11 in Wright County Conference baseball action Friday.

Eric Hulterstrum, who didn't have a hit, but scored two runs, hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to give the Dragons (4-3, 4-4) a 12-9 lead.

Watertown-Mayer rallied for two runs off of reliever David Yordi in the seventh, but Litchfield was able to finish off the victory.

With the strong wind blowing to the outfield, both teams started the game with home runs.

Adam Mitzko hit a three-run shot in the top of the first, but Litchfield's Aaron Solbrack answered with a two-run blast in the bottom of the frame.

Nick Buschette went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the Dragons. Nic Johnson added three hits.

The Lakers (3-6) scored five times in the fifth inning to vault in front of the Mainstreeters on Friday.

Minnewaska, which had lost two games earlier the week, had a breakout game with 12 hits.

Alex Henricks led the assault with three hits while Mike Whittemore, Jeremy Walker and Trenton Berg had two hits each. Kevin Jenks tripled in a run.

Berg threw the first four innings, allowing both runs, then got outstanding relief from Cory Holten the last three innings.

This was a big night for the Warriors' winning pitcher Shawn Dollerschell, who went 4-for-5 with the bat to drive in six runs. Ross Nelson added three safeties to BOLD's 14-hit assault on four Redwood Valley pitchers.

Dre Arrendondo doubled and Erik Wieneke homered, each driving in three runs for the Cardinals with one swing of the bat.

The Wolverines (6-0) piled up 10 hits to blow by West Central in six innings.

The run production made it easy for Ethan Pauling who cruised to the win on a five hitter with 10 strikeouts. He walked one.

Tyler Dammann, Jordan Smith, Tyler Wrede, and Jordan Ruter had two hits apiece for MACCRAY. Shaun Condon knocked in two runs.

Today, the Wolverines are scheduled to play Pelican Rapids at 11 a.m. and Morris at 1:30 p.m.
