Prep baseball: Monte wins on MACCRAY miscues
RAYMOND — A four-run fifth fueled by five MACCRAY errors allowed Montevideo to overtake the Wolverines for a 5-4 win on Tuesday at Lilleberg Field on a cold late afternoon.
Markus Kranz’s single supplied two of the runs during the uprising that put the T-Hawks in front 5-2.
The Wolverines answered with a major threat in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back RBI singles by starting pitcher Caleb Melin and Dylan Abraham made it 5-4.
Monte manager Tim Epema brought in Jordan Thompson to relieve starter Jeff Rohloff with one out and runners on first and second.
Thompson got Cheyton Homan, who had a two-run single in the first, to ground to Kranz, who stepped on third and threw to first for the double play. Thompson blanked the Wolverines the rest of the way.
After two wins, it was the first loss for MACCRAY. Monte goes to 3-1.
Melin was sharp in the loss, walking no one and fanning seven. Only one run was earned.
