Prep Baseball: Montevideo avenges earlier loss to YME

MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo won a squeaker in the rain on Friday, tipping Yellow Medicine East 7-6 in a West Central South baseball game.

The Thunder Hawks' Jerad Schmitt scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 6-6 tie.

Christian Brabender tossed the first five innings for Montevideo (3-8, 4-10). Colton Vien took over to start the sixth and threw two innings, allowing two hits, but no runs to earn his first varsity win.

He got some help from shortstop Mitch Christensen in the seventh.

After Travis Enger reached on his third hit of the game for YME (5-7, 6-8), Derek Dyrdahl hit a bouncing shot up the middle. Christenson cut it off, stepped on the bag and threw to first for the double play to end the game.

YME beat Montevideo 6-1 on April 16 in Granite Falls.

Jordan Tanner gave up six hits and struck out eight in a complete game victory for ACGC.

Mitch Tauer drove in two runs on two hits for the Falcons (7-6, 7-8).

Trenton Berg took the loss on 2Xc innings pitched. Berg also smacked two triples, scored two runs and drove in a run.
