MORRIS -- A nine-run second inning ignited Morris/Chokio-Alberta as the Tigers remained in a virtual tie with Lac qui Parle Valley for first place in the West Central South Conference by upending Yellow Medicine East 13-1 Monday.

The Tigers, who improved to 7-1 in the conference and 11-1 overall, had 13 players bat in the second inning, producing eight hits. Travis Rinkenberger had a two-run single, Tyler Hansen added a two-run double and Ryan Beyer slugged a two-run homer.

Alex Erickson struck out eight and gave up just four hits and one walk to earn a complete-game win. Erickson also scored twice and drove in a run by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Coley Riley had a double and two singles, and Hansen and Taylor Hufford added two hits apiece.

Garrett Cole scored on a wild pitch after reaching base by belting a double in the fourth for the Sting (3-6, 5-6).

Colton Vien outdueled Jason Kampsen on Monday in a game in which both hurlers posted a dozen strikeouts against just two walks apiece.

Vien finished with a five-hitter and knocked in his team's first three runs. He doubled home two in the top of the first and singled in another run in the third inning.

Joe Bednar also got two hits for the Thunder Hawks (2-6, 3-7).

For Paynesville (3-3, 5-3), Anthony Poepping hit two singles and drove in a run. Kyle Schmidt also got two hits. Kampsen was touched for eight hits and three earned runs.
