LQPV 6, Pipestone 4
Lac qui Parle Valley, coming off an improbable postseason run last season that got them to the Class A state final, opened its 2013 season by getting only three hits Friday. But all three of those, which came off senior Preston Kraft’s bat, drove in runs as the Eagles rallied past Pipestone 6-4.
Kraft doubled in a run in the third, launched a solo home run in the fifth and connected on a two-run single in the sixth that put LQPV up 5-4.
The Eagles added insurance when Nick Burkleo got hit by a pitch when the bases got loaded after Kraft’s go-ahead single.
Garrett Olson got the final out in the fourth inning and worked the fifth and sixth and part of the seventh to get the win in relief of Burkleo. Colby Siegert then got the final three outs to earn a save.
Austin Haas drew three walks and scored twice for LQPV, which hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton today at noon.
