Prep baseball roundup: LQPV tops Ortonville
ORTONVILLE — After Ortonville plated a run in the third inning, Lac qui Parle Valley sent up 12 batters to the plate in the top half of the fourth to produce seven runs and take control in the season opener.
Ortonville pulled within 7-6 with a five-run fifth, but the visiting Eagles added a couple of insurance runs in the seventh. LQPV was outhit 5-4 in the game, but two Ortonville pitchers issued a combined 10 walks in the final four innings.
Sawyer Bohn singled in Cole Bungarden and Phil Kleven to highlight LQPV’s seven-run fourth, the Eagles’ only hit of the frame. Ty Kanstrup added two singles and Austin Haas, who earned a save, one more.
LQPV starter Garrett Olson struck out seven to outweigh surrendering five runs, four hits and four walks in four innings of work to collect the win. Brandon Hill worked the fifth and Haas then fanned four and didn’t give up a hit or run in the sixth and seventh.
The Eagles host Renville County West on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Camden Conference opener for both teams.

Scoreless through three innings in the season opener, Minnewaska scored twice in both the fourth and fifth before erupting for seven runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. The Lakers pounded out 18 hits over the last four innings after being held to just one in the first three frames.
Matt McIver and Austin Ostrander had three hits apiece for Minnewaska while Matt Paulson, Riley Thompson, Jayden Beecher and Hunter Thompson all had two each.
Thompson earned the win on the mound after tossing five scoreless innings and striking out five while surrendering four hits to the Falcons.
David Kinzler had three singles with Jordan Nelson and Colton Minnick adding RBI doubles for the Falcons.

Montevideo 13, YME 3
Jeff Rohloff, Zac Enevoldsen and Jordan Thompson supplied three hits apiece to help Montevideo pound out 15 hits in less than six innings in the season opener. The 10-run rule was invoked when pinch-runner Bryce Maurice beat out a slow groundball down the third-base line with one out in the sixth.
Montevideo also got two hits each from Tristan Weber and Ricky Schmitz and took advantage of six YME errors.
Thompson struck out nine while giving up five hits, two earned runs and two walks in five innings of work to collect the win.
Logan DeBlieck singled twice and drove in two runs, and Austin Vikander tripled for the Sting.
