Prep Baseball Roundup: MACCRAY earns share of Camden title

RAYMOND — MACCRAY clinched a tie for the Camden Conference title with a 3-2 win over Canby on Monday.

The Wolverines and Lac qui Parle Valley shared the championship with 9-1 records. MACCRAY is 12-4 overall.

The Wolverines broke through in a scoreless game with three runs in the fifth inning. Canby scored twice in the top of the seventh inning but Tyler Moffenbier was able to shake off a tough relief stint and closed out the game for starter and winner Carter Asche, who two-hit the Lancers for six innings.

Asche also tripled and drove in two runs and Moffenbier and Ransom Dykema had the Wolverines other hits.

MACCRAY on Saturday plays host to the winner of the Dawson-Boyd and Yellow Medicine East play-in game to open the Section 3A playoffs.

The MACCRAY game begins at 11 a.m. and Renville County West and Minneota play after the conclusion of the first game in Raymond.

Central Minnesota Christian School got the bats going early and never relented in a Camden Conference game on Monday in Sunburg.

The Bluejays ripped 16 hits — including a Tanner Stoel grand slam — and scored 10 runs in the first two innings, finishing the game off with seven runs in the top of the fifth.

TJ Stoel was 4-for-4 and Tanner Stoel, Nick Daugherty, Matt Meyer, Taylor Slagter and Matthew VanEps all had two hits.

Ryan Brouwer, Aaron Zwart and Tanner Stoel combined to three-hit the Saints.

Rylan Hatlestad, Brandin Dahl and Nathan Torkelson had KMS’ hits.

The Saints play at Lakeview at 4:30 p.m. today.

Brady Jergenson slugged a two-run homer after Corey Storck reached on a two-out double in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule for the Tigers (9-8).

Jergenson drove in three runs earlier with a two-run single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Jergenson, Storck and Joey Dufault had two hits apiece while Gage Backman doubled twice and singled to drive in four runs.

Danny Tracy scattered six hits and two earned runs in five innings of work on the mound to earn the victory.

Cody Hammerschmidt forced the Tigers to bat in the bottom half of the fifth after belting a two-run homer in the top half for Benson.

The Tigers wrap up the regular season over the next two days by hosting Montevideo today and traveling to Glenwood on Wednesday to take on Minnewaska. Benson and MCA then open the Section 3AA-North playoffs Saturday in Montevideo as No. 3 MCA takes on No. 6 Red Rock Central and No. 7 Benson plays No. 2 Montevideo.

James Kuefler doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as BBE claimed a Central Minnesota Conference win on Monday in Elrosa.

Kuefler was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and James Boogaard and Justin Schmitz also had two hits apiece.

Jordan Wosmek picked up the win, working three innings in relief of Jacob Weller. Wosmek allowed just one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Brandon-Evansville broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the fourth inning and then kept the pedal to the metal, scoring five more in the fifth and another five in the seventh inning on Monday.

Brandon Shaw and Bryce Schmidgall both had two hits for the Owls, who play next at Wheaton at 5 p.m. Thursday.
