In the fourth, Cheyton Homan walked and Carter Asche singled. Ransom Dykema advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Cronen followed with the run-scoring single.

Asche worked four shutout innings to get the win, and Derick Sommers surrendered an unearned run in the final three innings to earn the save.

Sommers, Caleb Melin, Dylan Abraham and Asche all had two hits for the Wolverines.

MACCRAY, now 2-0, plays host to Montevideo today in Raymond.

The Eagles of Lac qui Parle Valley got only 9 hits off five Tracy-Milroy-Balaton pitchers, but those same five issued 15 free passes to the visitors — 8 walks and 7 hit batsmen.

LQPV delivered the knockout in the fourth when 16 batters visited the plate with six of them getting hit by a pitch, five in a row at one point. Highlighting the 13-run frame was a three-run double from Ty Kanstrup, Cole Bungarden’s RBI double and Sawyer Bohn’s RBI single.

The game ended in the fifth — in snow — when the Eagles batted around again, getting help from run-scoring singles from Joey Devorak and Connor Oie, to put up another six runs and LQPV reliever Austin Domeier fanning the side. The 4:30 p.m. start at the Tracy diamond came with a 23-degree windchill as the temperature was 32 degrees, accompanied with 10-mph winds coming from the north.

LQPV starter Garrett Olson gave up three hits, including Austin Gleis’ RBI double in the first, while striking out five in four innings of work to pick up the victory. Austin Haas helped back Olson by scoring twice, singling twice and driving in a run.
