Prep baseball roundup: Maple Lake trips up Paynesville
REGAL — Maple Lake’s Dustin Strub knocked a go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the fourth and the Irish topped Paynesville 5-3 on Friday.
The Bulldogs knotted it up 3-3 in the bottom of the third, but starting pitcher Jordan Roos hit the first two batters he faced in the fourth inning, who both came around to score on Strub’s single after a sacrifice bunt.
Paynesville scored twice in the first inning on an error and a Nick Dingmann RBI single, and added one more in the third.
Dingmann and Mitchell Weidner each had two hits, and Josh Mackedanz was 1-for-1 with a double.
Maple Lake starter Tony Goelz worked 4.2 innings for the win, and Roos took the loss.
Paynesville (5-2) next plays Monday at YME.

Two hits and the pitching of Brandon Hill were enough for the Eagles of Lac qui Parle Valley to tip Pipestone in eight innings.
The Eagles (5-3) scored twice in the top of the eighth to go up 3-1.
The Arrows (4-3) got an unearned run to make it 3-2 and had runners on second and third with two out. But Hill got the final out on a strikeout and finished with a seven-hitter.
Arrows’ hurler Rick Freese held the Eagles line-up to singles by Dylan Lillejord and Garrett Olson while whiffing seven.
A Lillejord single and an outfield error produced the eighth-inning runs.

Hancock led briefly but Central Minnesota Christian School’s offense heated up in the second inning and the Bluejays coasted to a six-inning victory on Friday in Hancock.
Tanner Stoel was 4-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs, and Austin Bulthuis tripled and doubled and drove in a pair. Jaxon Schwitters drove in three runs and scored twice.
TJ Stoel shut down the Owls after the first inning, finishing with 11 strikeouts.
Justin Miller drove in both Owls runs.
Hancock travels to play at Brandon-Evansville at 5 p.m. Monday.

MACCRAY pitchers Tyler Moffenbier and Derick Sommers combined for nine strikeouts in the first game of the Morris/Chokio-Alberta Invite and held Breckenridge to seven hits en route to keeping the Cowboys winless.
The Wolverines pounded out 14 hits — three each from Sommers and Caleb Melin — and put up three-run frames in the fourth and seventh.

A two-out, two-run single in the top half of the seventh propelled the visiting Mainstreeters past Montevideo. Logan Knoshal reached on an error and Jeff Rohloff was later hit by a pitch in the home half of the seventh, but Sauk Centre starter and winner Will Funk worked out of the jam to lift the Mainstreeters to .500 on the season.
The Thunder Hawks (4-3) got their lone run in the second when a sucicide squeeze from Andrew Peters brought in Markus Kranz.
Jordan Thompson was the hard-luck loser, striking out seven and not allowing an earned run while scattering eight hits and walking only one in a complete-game performance.

Trevor Nissen tripled, doubled and drove in four runs and continued BOLD’s run of stingy pitching in a five-inning win over the Sting on Friday in Granite Falls.
BOLD is the defending Class A champion and the No. 1-ranked team in the latest Let’s Play Baseball Class A poll.
The Warriors improved to 5-0 and they’ve outscored their opponents 47-2. Their pitchers have given up one run and just four hits in the last three games.
Lane Stadther had three hits and drove in two runs and Joel Erickson and Austin Weis both had two hits.
Nissen worked all five innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Dylan Johnson, Joe Sannerud and Zach Fischer had the Sting’s hits.

Litchfield righted its ship with a seven-run first inning but just couldn’t put the brakes on Dassel-Cokato, issuing 11 walks in a Wright County Conference loss on Friday at Optimist Field in Litchfield.
D-C scored five first-inning runs without getting a ball out of the infield, but the Dragons scored seven on seven hits before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first.
The Dragons rapped out 15 hits. Sam Renner was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, and Eddie Estrada also had three hits and scored a run.
Braeden Wahl and Riley Johnson both had two RBIs.
