Prep baseball: Sangren, Marcus lead BOLD to final 4
BIRD ISLAND -- Logan Sangren tripled in the winning runs and Jake Marcus threw a one-hitter to lead BOLD to a 4-1 win over Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity in the Section 2A North Subsection semifinals on Tuesday.
Sandren's two-out, sixth-inning shot to right field sailed over the head of LPHT outfielder Dalton Kinneman and brought Tyler Rock and Marcus around to score. Sangren also scored on the play when the relay throw to third sailed out of play, giving the Warriors a 4-1 lead.
Marcus set the Bulldogs down in the top of the seventh to lock up the victory. He worked all seven innings, allowing one hit, no earned runs, walking one and striking out four.
The Warriors, now 15-3, play New Ulm Cathedral (16-5) at 5 p.m. Thursday in Mankato. The Greyhounds upset Sleepy Eye St. Mary's, which was 21-0 and the top-ranked Class A team, 7-2 on Tuesday.
In the fifth, LPHT had BOLD in a jam, with a run in and the bases loaded with one out.
But Warriors shortstop Zach Remillard snared a looping liner and tossed to Tyler Seehusen at second for an inning-ending double play.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sangren led off with his first triple of the game and scored the tying run on Riley Kramer's RBI single.
