Prep Baseball: Waska walks past Benson
BENSON -- Minnewaska Area took advantage of 10 Benson walks to score five runs and win the season-opener against Benson 6-3 in West Central South Conference action Tuesday.
Benson held a 2-0 lead through the first three innings, but the Lakers drew seven walks and five wild pitches to score three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Kevin Jenks drove in a run in the sixth with a single. Cory Holten had a triple.
Dustin Helmick threw the first four innings to pick up the win. He gave up three runs on three hits, struck out four and walked three.
Anthony Burreau singled in a run for Benson for the team's lone RBI.
