Prep Baseball: Yellow Medicine East gets sweep of Benson

GRANITE FALLS -- Yellow Medicine East swept a West Central South Conference doubleheader from Benson on Monday.

The Sting took the opener 7-3, then capped the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the finale.

Game One YME 7, Benson 3

YME starter Dylan Lindstrom pitched two-hit, shutout ball before departing with a 7-0 lead after five innings.

The Sting offense was led by Travis Enger with a two-run triple, Jordan Hagert with an RBI double and Derek Dyrdahl with two hits.

Enger tripled in two runs in the seventh. Carter Fennell had two hits, including a run-scoring single in the sixth for Benson.

Game Two YME 6, Benson 1

Jordan Hagert doubled and singled and drove in four runs to lead the Sting (3-1, 3-1).

Mason Hegna and Austin Cole combined on a six- hitter. Hegna went the first five innings, allowing five hits and a first-inning run. Cole allowed just one hit over the final two innings.

Travis Enger also had two hits and Derek Dyrdahl tripled for YME.

Brennan Kent's first of two hits drove home the Benson run in the first.

The go-ahead run for the Falcons (2-2, 2-2) scored on a ground ball off the Thunder Hawks' pitcher's glove that couldn't be fielded before the run scored. ACGC rallied from a 4-2 deficit to take a 5-4 lead.

Joel Slinden and Kurtis Huisman had three hits each to lead the Falcons. Huisman had a triple and two RBI.

Christian Brabender went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead Montevideo (0-3, 0-4).

Minnewaska 6, BOLD 5

All the game's scoring came in the first three innings, capped by a four-run third by the Lakers (2-3, 2-4). Shane Bosek's two-run single highlighted the rally. He finished with three RBI.

Kevin Jenks and Alex Henricks had two hits each for Minnewaska.

Dylan Gass went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Warriors (3-1, 3-1). He took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on eight hits.

Mike Whittemore picked up the complete-game win. He gave up five runs on four hits.
