MORRIS -- The Montevideo boys team and the Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd girls team won West Central South Conference championships on Tuesday at the Pomme de Terre Golf Club in Morris.

Montevideo placed five runners in the top nine to clip Morris/Chokio-Alberta 29-35. Yellow Medicine East was a distant third with 90 points.

Morris/CA's Roy Reese claimed the boys' individual championship by 17 seconds over teammate Aaron Goulet. Reese finished in 17:36.0 and Goulet ran a 17:53. They were the lone runners to break 18 minutes.

But Montevideo's Joe Varpness placed third, leading a contingent that also placed fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth.

The LQPV/DB girls also used the group approach to win the championship, placing its five runners in the top 13. Monte placed second.

Morris/CA placed fourth but the Tigers' Makenzie Smith won the individual championship, finishing in 15:36. Alaysia Freetly of LQPV/DB placed second in 15:46.
