Prep football: 4 area teams win academic awards

The Minnesota Football Coaches Association has named their Gold and Silver academic teams.

The Gold teams are those with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Silver teams are those with GPAs between 2.75 and 2.99.

Willmar is a Gold team in Class AAAAA, Morris/Chokio-Alberta, New London-Spicer and Litchfield earned Gold in Class AAA.

BOLD, Minnewaska and Benson earned Gold in Class AA, while Yellow Medicine East earned Silver in Class AA.

Several area players also earned MFCA Academic All-State honors: Sean Zuidema and Bart Kerfeld of Willmar in Class AAAAA; Zach Steffl and Grant Vagle of New London-Spicer and Jacob Torgerson and Tom Holland from Morris/CA were honored in Class AAA.
