Prep football: ACGC, BOLD, Morris/CA get top section seeds
Thanks to unbeaten regular seasons, BOLD and Morris/Chokio-Alberta will have extra time to prepare for their first prep football playoff games.
Both teams received first-round byes after earning the top seed in their respective sections.
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City also got a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye to the second round Oct. 27.
Other area teams that are at home for the first round are Willmar, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Dawson-Boyd, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Lac qui Parle Valley, Litchfield, Minnewaska, New London-Spicer and Paynesville.
The No. 4 Cardinals (4-4) will host No. 5 Elk River (3-5) on Tuesday in the opening round of the Section 6AAAAA playoffs. The winner will then play at No. 1 Rogers (7-1) in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
BOLD (8-0) heads 5AA and will play host in the Oct. 27 semifinals to the winner of Tuesday's first-round game pitting No. 4 LQPV (4-4) against No. 5 Benson (3-5). The other first-round games Tuesday pit No. 7 Yellow Medicine East (0-8) at No. 2 Minnewaska (4-4) and No. 6 Eden Valley-Watkins (2-6) at No. 3 Paynesville (4-4).
In 6AAA, Morris/Chokio-Alberta (8-0) is expected to play the No. 4 Albany (4-4) and No. 5 Melrose (5-3) winner next Saturday at Big Cat Stadium on the campus of University of Minnesota, Morris. Litchfield (3-5) is No. 2 and slated to play host No. 7 Montevideo (1-7), while No. 3 New London-Spicer (4-4) is scheduled to host No. 6 Sauk Centre (2-6) on Tuesday.
ACGC has won three straight and will take a 6-2 record into a Oct. 27 home 4A semifinal game against either No. 4 KMS (3-5) or No. 5 Minneapolis North (2-6). Also Tuesday in 4A, No. 3 BBE (4-4) hosts No. 6 MACCRAY (2-6) and No. 7 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (1-7) is at No. 2 Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity (7-1).
Also on Tuesday in quarterfinal-round games, No. 2 Dawson-Boyd (7-1) hosts No. 7 Ortonville (1-7) in 5A and No. 6 Renville County West (0-8) and No. 7 Hancock (0-8) hit the road to play No. 3 Edgerton/Ellsworth (7-1) and No. 2 Hills-Beaver Creek (8-0), respectively, in Section 3 Nine-Man.
