SAUK CENTRE — Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s season began and ended with Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity.

The Jaguars, who beat the Bulldogs in the season opener Aug. 30, lost the rematch 29-12 on Friday at O’Gara Field in the Section 4A title game. BBE finished its season at 9-2.

It was the second straight year the Jaguars came up just short — last season they fell to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in the 4A championship.

BBE had won seven straight coming into the game.

The Bulldogs took a 14-6 halftime lead on a 2-yard run by Jared Stibal in the first half, and a 20-yard fourth-down quarterback sneak by Alex Heigl after an eight-play, 80-yard drive.

BBE’s Tanner Heinsius ran in a 6-yard score in the second quarter to bring the Jaguars within 8.

Penalties caused the Jaguars to miss some opportunities in the second half, and their offense never recovered.

A Trey Heinsius TD reception was pulled back on a holding penalty, and the drive ended when the Jaguars turned over on downs.

BBE also lost a chance at a first down on a personal foul after recovering the ball on a LP/HT fumble.

Bulldog running back Nate Tesch sealed the victory with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Tesch ran for 119 of LP/HT’s 249 rushing yards.

Quarterback Heigl ran for 70, while passing for only 14.

BBE’s Austin Kollman managed a 9-yard TD-run after the game was out of reach.

Kollman finished with 120 yards rushing.

Goodwin passed for 81 yards on 12 completions, with Trey Heinsius catching 35.

LP/HT will play Section 2A champion Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in the state quarterfinals Saturday at Marshall.
