Prep football roundup: Benson upends LQPV
Willmar Minnesota 2208 Trott Ave. SW / P.O. Box 839 56201

MADISON -- Benson quarterback Matt Ahrndt ran for three first-quarter touchdowns and Lac qui Parle Valley couldn't recover, falling to the Braves 33-8 in a Section 5AA first-round playoff game on Tuesday.

Ahrndt, who ran for 50 yards, also hit 14 of 20 throws for 183 yards and a TD pass to Colin Ose in the second quarter that put Benson up 26-0 at halftime.

After backup quarterback Kellen Kessler hit Austin Haas on a 31-yard scoring pass in the third quarter, Benson answered back in the fourth when Morgan Staton scored on a 2-yard run.

The Braves' balance attack was too much for a LQPV team playing without one of its top talents, quarterback Dylan Erickson, who injured a knee in the Eagles' final regular-season game. In addition to Ahrndt's passing yards, the Braves ran for 175 yards.

Benson improved to 4-5 overall and plays at West Central Conference co-champion BOLD (8-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Olivia. The Warriors had a first-round bye.

LQPV finished the season 4-5. J.D. Struxness carried 12 times for 49 yards and Dazhown Coleman ran 13 times for 45 yards.

Haas caught three passes for 74 yards.
