Prep football roundup: Minneota ends Dawson-Boyd's 17-game win streak

Tribune Staff Reports

DAWSON -- The defending Class A state champions, riding a 17-game winning streak, didn't intimidate Minneota/Lincoln HI on Friday night.

Nathan Pavek caught two long scoring passing from Brock Buysee in the first half, and the Vikings shut out Dawson-Boyd's potent offensive attack in the second half for an 18-14 victory on the road.

Pavek scored on passes covering 80 yards and 40 yards in the second quarter to put the Vikings up by four at halftime. Surprisingly, that would be all the scoring the Vikings would need.

The Vikings rumbled through the D-B defense and outgained the Blackjacks 384 yards to 259. The Blackjacks couldn't find the end zone after Nathaniel Huot's 5-yard scoring pass from Joey Lee in the second quarter.

Jeff Gladis got the Vikings the lead with a 2-yard run in the first half.

D-B's Justin Lee scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter before Pavek and Buysee hooked up the first time.

Buysee finished with 265 yards and two scores, with Pavek catching four balls for 158 yards and the two scores.

The Vikings held D-B to 109 passing yards.

The teams are now tied in the Little Sioux Conference with identical 3-1 records.
