Email

LITCHFIELD -- Big plays made the difference for New London-Spicer, which managed just 63 yards of total offense but still came away with a 20-14 Wright County Conference win over Litchfield on Friday night.

Despite the lack of consistent offensive output, NLS' Adam Essler returned a punt 85 yards for a third-quarter touchdown and a 14-0 lead, and after Litchfield scored to close the gap, Essler brought back the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for another TD in the fourth quarter.

Litchfield quarterback Zach Kinny was in on both of the Dragons' scores, running 1 yard for a TD in the fourth quarter and later throwing 15 yards to Cody Rau for a score that cut the Wildcats' lead to six points.

NLS quarterback Ryan Vraa was sacked six times, but he completed 8 of 11 throws for 62 yards and a 17-yard TD to Jarrett Hatlestad that opened the scoring in the second quarter.

Kinny connected on 15 of 31 throws for 143 yards. Eddie Estrada rushed for 34 yards and he also had three of the Dragons' six sacks.
