Prep gymnastics: Brainerd edge Cardinals

BRAINERD — The Willmar gymnasts lost by less than one point, falling to Brainerd 135.375-134.85 in a Central Lakes meet on Thursday.
Willmar’s Cassie Johnson won the vault with a 9.525 and the beam with 8.55, and Haley Mottinger took the floor with a 9.325. Johnson took second on the floor and Maddie Lindblad was third in the vault.
Johnson’s two wins put her in first in the all-around with 34.575. Mottinger placed fourth in the all-around, and Alexis Miley was sixth.
