Prep gymnastics: Cards’ Hein in good form

WILLMAR — Brainerd outscored Willmar 142 to 137.9 but the Cardinals found another all-arounder on Thursday.

Sophomore Kendall Hein posted an all-around score of 35.45 in her four-event debut.

The vault had been holding back the former Willmar Wing but she made the most of her first chance on varsity and hit her Tsuk for a 9.15 score, good for fourth, one spot behind teammate Stephanie Thompson’s 9.325. Hein also hit on bars for an 8.4, placing fourth.  Hillary Weiler also stuck her vault with a 9.1.

Alexis Miley floor routine drew a fine 9.3, good for second, Willmar’s highest placement in any event.

Brainerd (4-0) was near its season best of 142.775. Willmar (1-2, 2-2) best is 139.75 but competed well after a long layoff (19 days), though beam proved difficult with four falls.

Willmar is Benson on Tuesday and St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday.
