CLARA CITY -- Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg took a pair of close games against MACCRAY in Camden North Conference softball action on Tuesday.

The Fighting Saints (6-0, 6-2) won the opener 6-3, then capped the sweep with a 5-4 win over the Wolverines (0-2, 1-3).

Game One

KMS 6, MACCRAY 3

KMS scored all six of its runs in the fifth inning. Sarah Carlson and Briane Baker drove in two runs each for the Fighting Saints. Carlson finished 2-for-4 with both hits doubles.

Ashley Forstrom was 3-for-3, for the Wolverines with a double and three RBI. Brandi Bodin was 2-for-3.

Sam Dunn went the distance for the win. She gave up seven hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out two.

KMS 5, MACCRAY 4

Briane Baker doubled in two runs in the top of the seventh inning and KMS held on as MACCRAY scored twice in its half of the seventh on a two-run single by Moranda Zimmer, but was unable to push the tying run across.

Eric Haglund was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits and four runs. She walked two and struck out one.

New London-Spicer 5, St. Cloud Cathedral 3

(9 innings) -- This was a battle of unbeatens at the top of the league. With two outs in the top of the ninth, New London-Spicer's Brianna Jacobson doubled home Jenna Moritz, who had singled leading off, and then Jacobson added insurance when she scored on Erika Norris's third hit of the game.

Jessica Rosendahl blanked St. Cloud Cathedral in the bottom of the frame for a complete game. She gave up seven hits with five walks and 11 strikeouts.

Norris also slugged a two-run homer in the second.

Moritz finished with two hits for NLS (6-0, 6-0).

Emily Ruegemer went the distance, allowing seven hits and a one walk, but the Crusaders (5-1, 6-1) lost for the first time.

Kelsey Jurgenson went 3-for-3 with a double and a three-run home run in the fourth inning to lead the Blackjacks.

Kendra Lindblad pitched all six innings, allowing two unearned runs and two hits for the win.

Mariah Kuhlmann added a double and a triple.

Elle Weber's double in the eighth inning broke a 5-5 tie.

Kristen Lee had two hits and double for Dawson-Boyd (3-3, 6-4). Lindblad picked up her second complete-game win of the day, allowing five unearned runs on four hits. She struck out nine and walked three.
