Prep Softball: Minnewaska sneaks past Morris, 2-1

GLENWOOD -- Pinch- hitter Joelle Johnsrud drove in the winning run as Minnewaska beat Morris 2-1 in a West Central South Conference softball game Tuesday.

With runners on first and third with two outs, Johnsrud laced a single down the third-base line to score Brooke Falk for the win.

Minnewaska's Laura Paulson held the Tigers to two hits, but Mary Rentz tripled in the fourth and scored on an error to tie the game. Paulson finished with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

The Lakers (5-1, 7-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second on Jillian Hendrickson's single.

Mackenzie Weatherly was the hard-luck loser. She gave up five hits, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (1-4, 2-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Natasha Dallmann single, a wild pitch and an error to win.

BOLD (1-3, 2-3) tied the game in the sixth on Brenna Holwerda's grand slam, then took the lead in the eighth on a double from Brittany Nissen and a single from Molly Herdina. Nissen and Herdina had three hits each.

Dallmann and Paige Wilner had two hits each for Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

Benson/Hancock scored three runs in the second inning without getting a hit as Lac qui Parle Valley committed two errors and issued three walks -- two with the bases loaded -- and wild pitch. Tasha Wiebold stole home for the eventual winning run.

Rachel Schlieman limited Benson/Hancock (4-1, 4-1) to just three hits, but the junior couldn't shake off issuing seven walks.

Taylor Semler earned the win after striking out 10 and holding Lac qui Parle Valley to just two hits after the first inning. Katie Deyo hit a two-run double in the first for the Eagles (0-4, 0-5).

Whitney Woehler threw a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and one walk for the Bulldogs.

Paynesville scored six runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth, closing out the game by the 10-run rule on Taylor Haag's single.

Haag, Jenn Paul and McKenzie Quade had two hits each.

Karrissa Larson, Jaci Clauson and Becca Pauling each hit a single for Montevideo.
