Prep softball: NLS wins big; Marshall next
NEW LONDON — Taylor Thunstedt marked her final home game of a long prep career in three sports at New London-Spicer with a pair of booming triples as the Wildcats pounded Mayer Lutheran 13-1 on Friday.
The senior, who is headed to NDSU to play basketball, also singled and drove in three runs.
The ’Cats jumped on the Crusaders for six runs in the first inning and would finish with eight hits and eight walks off M-L pitcher Kim Hafemann.
Lindsey Vagle added two hits and two RBI.
Senior pitcher Kelsie Rustad finished up on the home slab with a neat four-hitter, walking none and fanning four.
The Wildcats launch play in Section 3AA-North 3 p.m. Tuesday at Marshall. The winner will advance to play at 6 p.m. vs. the Redwood Valley vs. Montevideo winner.
