Prep softball roundup: Montevideo slugs its way past ACGC

MONTEVIDEO — Montevideo prevailed in a slugfest, 13-11, over ACGC on Tuesday.

The teams combined for 31 hits, and ACGC’s rally in the final two innings from seven runs down fell short.

Montevideo improved to 3-0. The Thunder Hawks play next against BOLD on Thursday in Olivia.

Montevideo’s Ashley Hoehne homered and drove in four runs and Kelsey Quigley also had a home run among her three hits and drove in two.

ACGC’s Hannah Wilner homered, drove in two runs and scored three.

Morgan Flann allowed a run on five hits, Taylor Ebnet drove in three runs and Peyton Weis had two RBIs in BOLD’s victory on Tuesday.

The Warriors scored four runs in the first two innings, more than enough support for Flann, who also struck out seven.

Paynesville scored 3 runs in the fourth inning, capped by a 2-run error when a fly ball dropped between second base and right field.

Sam Dahl, Brianna Stang, Kayla Schaefer and Lexi Skoglund each had two hits for the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-0.

Paynesville next plays at Morris/Chokio-Alberta on Thursday. Minnewaska will host Benson/Hancock on Thursday.

Yellow Medicine East used nine walks to scratch out the win. Three walks, two Tiger errors and a two-run single by Danie Roden fueled the Sting’s 6-run fourth inning.

It was the first loss for Morris/Chokio-Alberta after starting with four wins. They outhit the Sting 10 to 4.

The Fighting Saints took advantage of 13 walks and sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning and 16 in the fifth. KMS scored 11 runs in both frames.

Sam Dunn held Russell-Tyler-Ruthton to just two singles while striking out five in the five-inning contest. Dunn was aided by Courtney’s Olson’s three-run homer in the first and two doubles from Samantha Gjerde in the fifth.

Erin Haglund spun a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and also had a pair of two-run doubles. Kalli Forsell supplied two RBI singles in the first and another one in the fourth.

Sadie Zaiser held the Eagles to just two hits while striking out 11 in her complete-game win.

The Blackjacks sent their entire lineup to the plate in the third to score six times and take a 9-0 lead. Zaiser and Justine Flattum both had two hits and scored twice.

The Eagles’ lone run came in the fifth when Morgan Thole singled and later scored on Megan Wildung’s groundout.
