Prep softball roundup: RCW splits with Lakeview

DANUBE -- Renville County West split a doubleheader with Lakeview, taking Game One 3-2 and dropping Game Two 10-0.

The Jaguars won a back-and-forth matchup in Game One.

In the second inning, they got an RBI double from Grace Robertson to score Molly Elliott.

Robertson came through again two innings later, when she singled in Stephanie Wersel to give RCW a 2-1 lead.

Lakeview came back to tie it in the fifth, but RCW sealed the victory in the sixth when pinch-runner Mallory Thompson scored from third base, beating the throw home on a groundout by Elliott.

Cassidy Fransen threw seven innings for the win, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.

Lakeview ran away with it in Game Two, getting a three-run double in the first inning and getting two more in the third on an error, a walk and a base hit.

The Jaguars didn't touch Lakeview pitcher Lyndsay Peterson, who allowed three hits and no runs in six innings.

MONTEVIDEO -- Ashley Hoehne limited BOLD to just three hits in a complete-game performance in the pitcher's circle and the run given up was unearned as Montevideo (1-2, 1-2) picked up its first win.

The Thunder Hawks scored in every inning but the third and Dani Emkes put the home team in front 6-0 in the fourth after hitting a triple to the gap in left-center that drove in three runs. Lindsey Olson added an RBI single in the fifth.

Carly Sigurdson scored BOLD's (0-3, 0-3) lone run after drawing a walk and coming home on an infield error in the fourth.

Paynesville (1-2, 2-2) still had two runners on after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but a flyout to deep center ended the game as Sauk Centre (2-2, 2-2) needed just three hits to collect the win.

Megan Schaefer scored on an error and Kayla Schaefer drove in Jessica Solum with a single in the seventh for Paynesville, which had the bases loaded in the sixth but couldn't capitalize.

Megan Schaefer didn't give up an earned run in the pitcher's circle as three Paynesville errors aided the visiting Mainstreeters.

Melrose 5

Minnewaska got a six-inning win with a 15-5 blowout over Melrose on Tuesday.

After going up 2-0 to start the game on a Kaylee Jacobs double, the Lakers put up six in the third inning with five hits and four wild pitches off Melrose pitcher Andrea Warzecha.

Minnewaska scored five more in the fourth with the help of four walks off Melrose's Michaela Worms and a two-run single from Brook Winter.

Kaylee Jacobs picked up the win with four earned runs and six strikeouts in 4-2/3 innings.

GRANITE FALLS -- One week after 10-run ruling Canby/Minneota/Lincoln HI twice in a doubleheader, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg played another five-inning game Tuesday after blanking Yellow Medicine East 10-0 in a non-conference game.

Erin Haglund was nearly perfect in the pitcher's circle for the Fighting Saints (3-0), allowing just one hit while striking out six and not issuing a walk. Courtney Hinz singled with two outs in the first for YME (2-2), but Haglund then retired the next 13 batters in a row

KMS opened the floodgates in the second after sending up 11 batters to produce six runs on six hits. Courtney Olson highlighted the frame with a two-run double.

The Fighting Saints finished with 15 hits. Brielle Hauge paced the charge by going 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, while Haglund, Olson, Haylie Helms and Kalli Forsell each had two hits. Forsell led off the third with a solo home run that sailed over the fence in centerfield.

In the top of the seventh at Litchfield, Holy Family Catholic tied the score 8-8 on a run-scoring triple by Aly Anton who then charged home on a single by Anna Herd for the go-ahead run.

Jayme Brickey's 3-run double highlighted a 7-run third posted by the Dragons.

There were 25 walks issued in the game.

Zoe Johnson got the win with one inning of relief.

Kelsey Fischer took the loss.
