Prep softball roundup: RCW stifles RTR

TYLER — Cassidy Fransen earned the first of her two victories with a four-hit shutout over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday.

In Game 1, Fransen struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk. She also had a hit and drove in a run.

Brittany Krogman had two hits and two RBIs, Lexi Bakker had two hits and drove in a run and Malerie Thompson drove in a pair of runs.

Fransen squelched the Knights again in Game 2, allowing just two hits and striking out five. She didn’t walk a batter in either game.

Rachel Bakker and Morgan Zaske both drove in two runs.

The Jaguars, now 6-6 overall, play a doubleheader at Dawson-Boyd on Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Falcons compiled three hits, three hit batters and four walks for a 9-run first at Grove City.

BOLD rallied for 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by 2-run double by Morgan Flann. The tying run was at the plate when pitcher Jacey Nelson got the final out on a pop fly to shortstop Peyton Wilner.

The nearly 2-hour game bogged down with 18 total walks plus hit batters.

Bayley Pooler had three hits and drove in three runs and Mady Phillips and Morgan Hess combined for the pitching victory on Tuesday in Glenwood.

Benson/Hancock’s Krista Motzko hit a two-run home run and Peyten Doscher hit a solo shot.

Bri Fredrick two-out, two-run single to left scored Alyssa Fredrick and Lindsey Vagle to tie the score 5-all in the top of the seventh.

The hit came off GSL pitcher Moriah Maunu, who would get the last swing driving in the game-ending run in the bottom of the seventh.

GSL led 4-1 when Sienna Kampsen singled in two runs in the top of third to make it a one-run game.
